DIY Kitchen Art Wall Decor

A decked up kitchen is not only one that is neat, clean and sparkling but one that always has the right decor to match the kitchen color theme. Be it wall decor or the kitchen decor itself, I always pay a lot of attention to picking the right flatware, dinnerware or kitchen accessories to spruce up my kitchen. I have a white kitchen theme so maintaining it is gruesome but what white can do is compliment wall decor and give the room some life.

I love hanging things on the wall, collecting ideas is no big deal for me as I spend hours at the mall looking at Bed, Bath and Beyond! If you visit my apartment frequently, you would guess correctly that I always like to change the wall art in my house. Be it simple or complicated, I am never too scared to experiment. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I don't want to gloat, but I rarely discard my wall art and always find a corner to hang it.Bravo!!!!

Today I made this easy DIY wall art with a bunch of objects that hardly costed me a few bucks. If you have sometime,  go ahead and make this gorgeous wall decor for your Kitchen and let it cast a spell on your guests.  Do this any way you can think of. Improvisation is the key here.

For this wall art I created, you will need the following basic supplies :
·         Frames that I purchased for $1 @ Dollar Tree
·         Some contrasting fabric to form the background of the frame
·         Metallic red flatware that I got at Party City
·         Hot Glue/Stapler or Pins

First take apart the frame and carefully remove the glass and the backing.

Wrap the fabric around the backing tightly and either staple or pin it to the backing to secure tight.

Put the fabric covered backing into the frame without the glass.

Position the metallic flatware on top of the fabric and glue it once positioned onto the fabric and set to dry.

Tada!!!! Ready to hang on your Kitchen wall once dry.

Tip : If you don’t get the colored metallic flatware, purchase what you can and spray paint them and let dry accordingly. This way your design will get a more glossy finish and will look like a lot of work went into framing this art piece. Any which way, experiment and see what best suits your kitchen. Happy Crafting!!

The Healing Power Of Garlic

Garlic, an odoriferous bulb, is a derivative of the onion and is best known for flavoring food in most of the cuisines worldwide. It has been labeled as a health booster through intense scientific study due to its healing power. Over the years, garlic is used for a lot of medicinal purposes and the healing power of garlic has proven affirmative in science. It definitely helps to control acute risk of heart disease, lower cholesterol and reduce high blood pressure. In the field of medical science, research indicates that garlic can aid in curing colon, rectal, stomach, prostrate, breast and lung cancer.

This seasoning can do more than just flavoring food by adding that extra zing to your exotic dishes. Its medicinal property was used for centuries to treat the common cold and flu. It is believed that every time you sense you are coming down with flu, chew on some crushed garlic to control the sniffles.  The key ingredient in garlic is allicin which is known to have extraordinary anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-viral and anti-oxidant properties.

Believe it or not, but it is true that people apply garlic oil to skin to treat fungal infections. There is a lot of variation of garlic products sold in the market today. Obviously the effective usage is proving science to accept garlic’s healing powers although a lot of research needs to be done in order to prove its overall effect.

The properties of garlic assure a healthy life and can be considered truly as in inevitable core ingredient in our daily being that can make food more delicious and our life a little better.
To maximize its benefit, crush a pod of garlic and let it sit at room temperature to trigger the enzymes to boost its nutrient value and then use it in your cooking. Pay attention to the kind of garlic you pick up at the supermarket and always look for a bulb with tightly packed cloves. Garlic is a wonderful seasoning to add aroma, taste and added nutrition to your cooking and belongs in your diet on a regular basis.

If you can go past the disturbing odor it leaves in your mouth by popping a mint soon afterwards, then garlic is worth taking on a daily basis in your regular diet. In some cases, it causes indigestion while in others it lingers as a burning sensation in the stomach for a couple of seconds that can be diminished quickly by gulping down a glass of water. Nonetheless, it is a powerful immune system enhancer and improves cardiovascular health, in other words it is worth the agony.

She sails through the clouds looking for optimism and harmony,
She craves for a moment of quiet serenity,
All she can find is injustice, agony and disrepute
Always struggling to bargain for solace or substitute.
The meadows are lush green, they beckon her to rise,
Like an eagle who soars in the deep blue sky.
She delicately floats on the stream of dishonor
And struggles against cruelty that she endeavors.
The enormity of her wealth lies profound in her roots.
She can pray, endure and gracefully dispute,
Her inner beauty is a treasure to behold
For her strength and courage is her worthy gold.

Watches Women Want

Women have come a long way in picking wrist watches that depict their personality and reveal their flair. Wrist watches are no longer a wardrobe staple. A perfect watch can polish any look and elevate your outfit to realms of panache. It simply makes the ensemble incredibly stylish. Putting on an appropriate wrist watch for a woman now means her chic style declaration to express her attitude.

Over the years, I have humored in my fascination for wrist watches. Presently I own over a dozen and I never fail to take care of them habitually. Timeless elements, dazzling diamond studs, roman numerals and metallic straps are all enduring trends. The choices for the working women today are several. I have always recognized that there is nothing more apt than possessing a classic watch with a modern touch.

If you have visited the mall lately, it is very difficult to illustrate the absolute distinction between watches and a fine piece of jewelry. Obviously, the purpose to tell time is now taken a back seat and more prominently, focus is on the design and structure as it speaks volumes of the eccentricity of the person donning it. And what about the bewildering price tags? Most watches cost more than jewelry itself, but women all over the world are adamant to enjoy their own designer watch.

After reviewing the market trends and endorsing women’s palate for wrist watches, I can carefully say that employed women love to wear the oversized manly watch that is strikingly smart and sexy. In particular, rose gold stainless steel is making the rounds on the wrists of successful women today. A bit chunky for me, but the revelation is truly remarkable. From Fossil to Tag Heuer, Movado to Bulova every designer is carrying this style. Heavy on the cost but definitely a timeless classic for the independent, self-obsessed, successful woman.

Then there is the modern watch with eccentric detail that shouts out notice-me style that women love for the everyday kind of look. Most of them are lightweight and delicate, yet classy and dressy can be worn with any outfit in the closet. Reasonably priced and suitable for all ages, this watch is the best option to go to if you ever need some sort of comfort with time. The best part of this genre is that it can be attired with any outfit and still won’t make you look clich├ęd. You can find these in the mid-range or upscale department stores. Look out for suitable deals before purchase as you could save a lot.

Although I don’t disapprove of modern and manly, I am more of a ladylike type. Not that it reveals a sensitive side that inclines towards meek and subtle, but this style has got a bright sparkle that evolves into a complete feminine look. It has that slight hint of modernization mixed with vintage and creates an aura of simplicity yet sheer elegance that suits my personality and naturally most women. Invariably priced, if you keep eyeing online and/or in department stores, you could get a really awesome deal with this style.

Whatever your heart wishes, always remember that selection of a good wrist watch lies in its make and kind and gather all the information out of it before you purchase. Do your research well and understand the trends in the market to keep up. It is always virtuous to know what deals you can get and how to get them cost effectively. A tip for my readers is to frequently check on your watches warranty.  Leaving a dead battery cell inside the metal casing can result in ruining the watch and leading to irreparable loss. Always remember to clean and store your watches in suitable environments to avert acute damages.

And like it is, there is diversity in today’s collection of beautiful watches, but what matters the most is the precision of time.

La Reve – The Dream

Unimaginable and superb, La Reve is a magical expedition that stimulates you to dream and fantasize.

La Reve was one of Las Vegas most popular and mesmerizing production show that I got a chance to see in the summer of 2011. This spectacle was staged at my personal best casino and hotel on the Las Vegas strip, The Wynn.

The venue itself plays a vital role for the show and the sets and backgrounds are enormously attractive. On arriving at the venue, the stage was engulfed in theatrical fog and the soundtrack resounding from the speakers around as everyone were buzzing around looking for their seat. I was seated in the mid-section of the stage so it was perfect to see the on stage water dances and aero acrobatic performances from that eye level. Then it was show time and with hurried intention the story unfolded and captivated every ounce of me. I found myself thoroughly enjoying the performances and the enactments.

La Reve is a dream narrative with visually beautiful performances on ground and in the air. The show promised to enthrall my senses and my verdict reveals it most certainly did. With amazing and stimulating choreography set against some stunning yet crafty stage design that visually serve as apt backgrounds for the performers to display the delicate characters they portray on the galore stage. There is a devout intimacy in the roles depicted by each character on stage that will mesmerize the audience.

The show has it all, from costume designing to aquatic choreography to even moments of suspense and comedy. With a combination of fire and water elements, it draws the audience into “oooo’s” and “aaahh’s”. The lighting was spot on and the stage design was immensely gorgeous. The show has all the good talent to execute a well-crafted script that will transmit the audience to concentrated levels of amazement and leave them spell bound. There is a lot of variation in theatrics, circus acts, comical timing, acrobatic formations, aqua aerobics and many more that left me dazed. I loved the dance and music and was never disappointed at any time during the show.

La Reve is a true proclamation to what brilliant artistic stuff is made of. I am talking about art that ascended beyond my imagination. The skillful artists and athleticism that you see will rock the very substance of imagination and acoustics that will have a swooning effect of bliss on in you for days. Obviously, I will not reveal the story or any more theatrics and let you be the best judge of it. In my experience, it was totally worth it.

I don’t usually equate shows as I believe they are not there to compete with one another due to their sole purpose being entertainment and giving you back your money’s worth. La Reve is truly the show to see and trust me, you will not be disappointed. In all dimensions, it is superb and if you appreciate athleticism, aero acrobats, aqua aerobics and excellent musical composition, head down to Las Vegas and watch La Reve as this is the show for you.

Poetry : Insight

Envision life and beauty in a conspicuous sunflower
Smell the wild lilies as they bloom every hour.

Listen to the voice of the mountains high above
And watch the radiant sky gleam alluring rays of love.

For today is a gift that we are content to see
Tomorrow could be just unadorned misery.

Never lose hope and love yourself truly
Life and the challenges you face is only momentary.

Revel in your triumphs and learn from downfall
Struggle is just a phase that will ultimately dissolve.

Am I having a “BurnOut”?

It is sheer absurdity that the world we live in spins at a pace where we are always on the run. From the time we step out of bed in the morning, all we pursue is more, more and more. Seems like that is all our body is taught to fathom and follow. Success, money, fame and modernization are what we are hurtling at every day and there is no giving up of mind or body till we attain the eventual. That is when it strikes us. Unplanned, unexpected creeping up on us like a snake on a fresh vine. Throwing signs in the air to melt down and cautions us that we are on the verge of a “Burnout”.

Doing well at work or school is anticipated out of us. From the time we can walk, we are taught to hand grip pressure and ultimately thrive in life. But these days, financial imbalance coupled with responsibilities is pounding at us to go above and beyond our proficiency.  Societal living is bullying us to live life king size and indulge in materialistic pleasures at hand.  The intensities of stress we experience each day consume our physical and mental being, turning our bodies against us to deal with the aftermath.

The magnitude is a burnout. Studies show that the hormone cortisol is released in our bodies due to prolonged stress and has adverse impact on body growth. This steroid hormone when released, increases blood sugar, suppresses immunity, decreases bone formation and aids in body weight gain. Don’t wait till you reach the burnout. Act now.

Tune into your body and soul as it continuously expresses inclinations to slow down. Unite with your mind and unwind at the end of the day. Let your body relieve all stress before you go to sleep and avoid any occurrence of a burnout with a well-balanced proper diet, meditation and life work balance. Diagnose your over stressed body and pay attention to headaches, joint pains, swollen glands, indigestion, insomnia and many other sicknesses that may tie you down. If you ignore these noteworthy symptoms it could lead to severe depression and research advises that basic routines become impossible hurdles for the body and so it slowly retreats. It is time to visit a doctor and get a blood test exam.

Remember that stress is always an enemy and to relieve all the stress will eventually avoid that burnout. Start with the basic requirements in our daily life. Organize yourself and prioritize your work. Always indulge in relaxation and fun activities at the end of the day. Laugh a lot. Walk around, get good sleep. Eat at regular intervals and nourish your body with a healthy and complete vegetarian diet.

Overlook about the financial problems lurking around or the speed at which our world is modernizing. You don’t have to take life as a game to persistently substantiate yourself. Have fun in life and it is not all about success, money and wealth. Remember we also live in this world with our family, friends, pets and ourselves. Live a little and take a break from what you are doing once in a while. Explore and identify things about you and what you are passionate about. Love yourself more and meditate regularly. It is all rewarding in the end.

Creme Of Broccoli & Carrot Soup

Simple and easy to make with a whole lot of satisfaction and nutrition makes this soup one of my all time favorite comfort food.

For this soup I saute the Broccoli  Carrots and Celery in melted butter along with onions and add whole milk over heavy cream to give it a rich yet subtle creamy texture. The dash of pepper along with the herbs adds distinct flavor to the soup.

Completely nutritious and flavorful, this soup serves as a meal when served with warm bread sticks/garlic bread or croutons. Try it and see for yourself.

To make this soup you will need :-

3 cups broccoli florets trimmed and cleaned
2 medium carrots chopped
2 celery sticks chopped into bite size
1 medium onion chopped
1 tbsp butter
3 cups milk
Salt to taste
Fresh ground pepper powder to taste
½ tsp thyme/ parsley chopped
Cornflour 3 tbsp dissolved in 2 tbsp of cold milk.

  • In a large saucepan, melt the butter on medium high heat.
  • Saute the onions in melted butter till translucent and aromatic.
  • Now add the carrots and celery and stir fry for a few mins.
  • Add the broccoli florets and saute all vegetables for sometime making sure not to overcook the vegetables as you would like them to retain their crunch.
  • Now add about 2 ¾ cups of milk and let it simmer on medium heat.
  • Meanwhile dissolve the cornflour in the rest of the cold milk and keep aside.
  • Season the soup with some salt and pepper to taste.
  • Add the chopped parsley/thyme and let it cook uncovered on medium heat for 3 minutes.
  • Reduce heat, cover and simmer for about 10 mins till vegetables are tender.
  • Finally, add the cornflour mixture and bring the soup to boil until thickened.
  • Serve warm with toasted bread sticks or garlic cheese croutons.

DIY Recipe Card Templates

If you enjoy cooking as much as I do and love experimenting a lot in the kitchen, it is best to have all of your favorite recipes pinned at one location. Making a cookbook can be a good way to organize and store all those tried and tested recipes.

Here I have made my very own Recipe Card template which I print and fill with my all time favorite recipes after it is approved to go in my cookbook. It is very simple for me to look for the recipe later as I file them in my Recipe Cookbook.

Store it and make a fancy cookbook of your recipe card collections.  Sort them out and file them according to cuisine, technique or taste. Use any of them or make your own cards to suit your style. Next time you want to send a friend your hottest recipe, just use the template.

Mother’s Day

It’s May already and that means Mother’s Day is around the corner. Have you started planning to celebrate? Have you already got her a nice present? If you have not thought about anything yet and would love to give her the best Mother’s day ever, here are some saviors to help make her day special.

Start her day by surprising her with a wonderful home cooked breakfast in bed. You could make Pancakes topped with blueberries and whipped creme and then just cut some fresh fruit into beautiful artistic shapes and drizzle honey all over for that touch of sweetness. Don’t forget the orange juice. Put this all on a beautifully decorated tray with a custom made Mother’s Day card and a flower vase with her favorite spring flowers. Just appreciate the glow on her face as you bring her breakfast in bed.

Doing something special for the most special person in your life is just a way to say thank you for all that she has done for you. Custom made gifts really warm a mother’s heart. Try making your own Mother’s Day cards, it is very simple and spells love all over. Of course here are my freebies that you could embellish to give it that personal touch if you run out of time.

Another great idea is to make decorative design plates. For this, you would need to scan your art and print it onto water-transfer paper available in craft stores. Once you have the printed copy, trim the image and drop the paper in water until the decal slips from the backing. Position on the plate and ta-da smooth out the wrinkles to complete. When dry, apply some varnish over the design to seal them. Please note these plates are for decorative use only.

Plan the day with your mother to include outdoor activities and soak up some sun at the beach. A picnic is a great idea if you just want to go out and have fun. Take bike rides with mom or simply go to the park. Don’t forget your camera and click away memories of a lifetime. Have fun and let her know how much she means to you.

Finally, cook her a wonderful dinner by visiting this site for some great recipies or just make her favorite if you already know.

And last but not the least, don’t forget to do the dishes and give her a hug and tell her how much you love her.

Have a Wonderful Mother’s Day.

Ways To Enjoy A Decent Flight Travel.

If you are like me and resent air travel and the whole experience of it, then you should read this article. Several times I have been through the motions of a draining flight experience and always wanted to share my tips to make someone else’s journey less glum. Travelling by flight is no walk in the park. It takes out the patience in you and exhausts all energy levels. If not planned properly, it could be boring, exhausting and miserable.

Here are a few tips to help you have a better flight the next time you air travel.

1) Annoying seat mate and how to avoid a conversation.

It’s bewildering that people have so much to talk about on a plane ride that they fail to realize they are insensitive to the comfort of their fellow seatmate. If your seatmate is twitchy, jittery or restless that will surely infuriate you.  Otherwise it is constant chatter and storytelling for all eternity. If you find it frustrating, don’t hesitate to pretend to catch some shut eye. They will get the point only when you stop responding. If you try to be nice and entertain their chatter, it will drive you crazy later on. So avoid ruining your mood and just pretend to sleep.

2) Stay hydrated.

If you consume alcoholic beverages it is best to drink lots of water to avoid dehydration. Consuming water otherwise is also a good practice especially since you dehydrate a lot at high altitudes.

Always carry a bottle of water and don’t forget to refill at the airport.

3) Wear footwear to the restrooms.

For hygienic sake and for health and sanity purposes do not visit the restroom barefoot. Wear shoes and head to the restroom. It is best to wear slip on comfort shoes. Not only are they soothing to your feet but also help save a lot of time at the security check gate.

4) Plan your Entertainment

Carry your noise cancellation headphones and your digital devices like laptops, tablets for long flights. Make sure to charge them to full power the previous night. This way you won’t be switching channels and testing your nerves looking for something interesting to watch on the in-flight entertainment provided by your airline.

Sometimes on long flights, at some point, if your mind is idle, it gets to you that you wish you were at your destination already. Try to divert your mind. Make up stories of the people around you and imagine the lives they live. You can get all fantasizing about their lives and let your imagination run wild. Try it, it can be fun.

Or if you just like reading pack those books and magazines the previous night.

5) Finally don’t forget the basics.
  • Dress smart, avoid wearing excessive jewelry or makeup.
  • Arrive early and check in online.
  • Double check all travel documents.
  • Wear your seat belt when seated at all times in the aircraft.
  • Practice in-seat exercises and walk about the aircraft.
  • Have your meals and get good sleep.

Stay focused throughout. Have a happy and safe journey.
