Keep Calm and.....

It is pretty weird or just sheer coincidence that lately I have been seeing a lot of the "Keep Calm" series everywhere I go. For those of you who do not understand what I am talking about, let me explain.

Originally formulated by the British government to motivate the morale of the British public during the second world war, they developed a motivational poster titled "Keep Calm and Carry On". Unfortunately, due to limited marketing, the poster was never known until it was discovered in the year 2000 when private companies started using the poster as a decorative theme. Today, the series is popular in various media and has grown into innumerable parodies and imitations making it a notable meme.

So I have encountered numerous parodies and I must say, it has always got me smiling. Here are the top ten favorites that I just love.

Smoothies : Peach, Tangerines And Ginger Smoothie Treat!

On a hot summer day after being out in the sun for long, nothing sounds more refreshing than a home made smoothie. I prefer smoothies over milkshakes as I can safely control the ingredients and cut down on the calories as far as possible. Having fresh fruit all the time, I love to innovate and create new flavors and combinations.

Here is my refreshing Peach and Ginger with Tangerines Smoothie treat!

Ingredients :
2 peaches sliced
2 tangerines peeled
1/4 cup of low fat milk
2 tsps of brown sugar
1 tsp of honey
1 inch of fresh ginger root chopped
4-5 almonds unsalted
3 pitted dates
3 cubes of ice

Method : Toss all the ingredients into a blender and blend to smoothie consistency. Add 3 cubes of ice and whip to get a frothy texture like smoothie. Adjust sweetness accordingly and serve immediately.

DIY Wall Art Decor

It would be so wonderful if I could convert my whole living room into an art gallery. So far, I am about 50% there with all my DIY art work around the living room. I started to look at more intriguing art at exhibit gallery's and art museums and developed the intuition to replicate them at home. The ideas that are available online are immense and creatively beautiful. The execution of them is left in my disposition and I must say I get inspired. It is no surprise that I love designing and decorating my wall.

Imagine making some of the coolest art work for under $10. Here are some of my inspirational design ideas that are hip and easy to make. Go ahead and try them and see what you can make for your walls.

Exhibit 1: Colors of Pink & Purple on Canvas.
Below is a canvas art made with beautiful pink and purple shades of acrylic paints. The composition of the art work is inspired from bright hues and circular patterns. Lovely isn't it?

Exhibit 2 : Cupcake liner wall art.
I got this idea a long time ago from Martha Stewart crafts. Added my own version and improvised as I went along. All you need is some cup cake liners, white cardstock, fabric and some hot glue. To begin, simply glue the fabric or staple it to the cardstock as desired. Glue the cup cake liners onto the card stock and let dry. With a red marker design accordingly and frame. Tada!!!!

Exhibit 3 : Modern Art
On white cardstock use criss cross lines of contrasting pieces of washi tape. Border the white cardstock with matching washi tape to give it a strong frame. Simple and quick, yet very modern and sleek.
There you have it! New art to adorn those plain dull walls. Cheap and easy to do, also shows the creative side of you. I am sure it will be welcomed by your guests. Improvisation is the key and let your imagination take you creativity skills to a whole new level. Good Luck and happy framing!!!

Health Benefits Of Honey!

Honey, the saccharine nectar from flowers is the celestial stimulant of life. This lustrous brown liquid does marvels for health in more ways than one can envision. Discover the variations of honey benefits with its myriad floral tastes and countless health applications. The resourcefulness of honey and the goodness it can bring into your everyday practical life is simply incredible.

Honey is so sweet and comforting that we fail to see outside its sticky consistency and assets. It has age old proven medicinal health benefits that not only satisfy the palate, but also proven as an effective natural antiseptic and antioxidant. Its influential healing attributes are known to cure cuts, diseases and ailments that fight infections and aid in tissue healing. Honey is used to treat diarrhea, indigestion, gastroenteritis and stomach ulcers.

This oldest natural sweetener with its exclusive taste and aroma has served in many cooking dishes like honey glazed ham, quick breads, baking pastries and dips. The caramel liquid with its moist intensity and aroma can be drizzled over a bowl of fresh cut fruit or even the morning cereal, marinades or salad dressings. Sometimes, I like to consume honey with some pepper to cure an ailing throat ache or simply soothe a common cold that kills the infectious bacteria and relieves any irritation that persists. Honey has good anti-viral and anti-fungal properties.

Honey has several uses in beautifying the skin. A honey mask made with milk and a drop of coconut oil can cure acne and improve the quality of your skin by making it smoother. The anti-bacterial properties in honey can give your skin the nourishing look and feel it rightly deserves.

This must have ingredient in your pantry aids in boosting immunity and improving health. The antioxidant in honey helps in digestion and prevents constipation. Honey consumed with warm water every morning is a established weight loss remedy. This inimitable combination helps digest fat in the body and thus aid in weight loss. It is also opulent in a number of vitamins and minerals like vitamin C, calcium and iron that are all prime sources of this sweet food.

The antioxidants and flavonoids help diminish the risk of few types of cancer as it kills the collagen in the body. Honey is considered to be a natural healer for open cuts and wounds. It cures the wound by killing bacteria and cleanses it of any infection. It is also recommended to have a glass of warm milk with a drop of honey before bedtime to induce good sleep.

There are many varieties of honey and the ones found in the supermarket is not typical raw honey. They are processed and pasteurized losing many of their benefits along the way and hence may not be as effective. Usually raw or even organic honey purchased from the bee farm is the best option and should be consumed. However, liquid honey is the most common form of honey produced and consumed.

A definite alternative to sugar at my place, I recommend that you replace the consumption of sugar as far as possible with fresh natural honey. A spoonful of honey can definitely do wonders for your health regime and consuming it daily will intensify your health and keep you trim and fit. Try it and enjoy the benefits of this natural sweetener.
