DIY SPA Facial At Home

Busy women have little or no time to coddle themselves and when you cannot make it to the spa, its best to let the spa come to you. In this post, let us see how we can have a practical yet productive spa day to cleanse, clarify and renew our face.

Every facial begins with cleaning your face and steaming the face is the best method to unclog pores and refresh the face. After steaming the face, a good facial mask ensures that the skin is well treated. It is always good to apply a facial mask at least once a week. Toning and moisturising are however daily tasks that should be executed no matter how busy one is.

Why Steam Your Face?

Its no secret that facial steaming helps to open up the pores of your skin and aid in circulating blood flow. This process can refresh the skin and undo impurities when the pores open. I've been addicted to this method for a long time now and steaming my face is a weekly ritual that enhances a younger looking skin that is free of dirt and build-up. In other words, it relaxes the skin leaving it clean and clear and even helps to get rid of blackheads.

How It Benefits You?

The facial steaming process can deep cleanse and moisturise the skin. The steam enables the pores to open up and flush out toxins and dirt that accumulate under these pores due to exposure to harsh chemicals in make-up and environmental pollutants. This method ensures that dirt and build up is eradicated and the natural sebum is produced to moisturise the skin in a healthy way while increasing the amount of blood flow in your face.

Steaming also releases dead skin cells which can be difficult to wash off with soap. Practising facial steaming gives you clean, clear and refreshed skin all day.Follow that with face mask once a week to maintain the skin PH and then don't forget to tone and moisturise daily.

Steps To Perform Spa Facial At Home

  • Wash your face using a gentle cleanser and ensure you have no traces of make up.Pat your face dry.
  • In a large heatproof bowl pour some boiling hot water into it. A word of caution is to make sure the bowl sits steady and does not wobble. Also find a comfortable place to sit in front of the bowl.
  • Add a few drops of essential oil, some fresh herbs or even herbal tea bags that you prefer to the hot water for an invigorating spa like experience.
  • Place a towel over your head and bowl and gentle hover your face over the steaming hot water just close enough to start sweating and feeling the heat from the steam warming your face.
  • When it gets stuffy for your liking, ventilate and wipe the steam off your face with a clean wash cloth.
  • Continue the facial steaming process for about 10 minutes.
  • The steam treatment opens up the pores drawing out dirt and impurities. Follow the steam treatment with a face mask. Honey and oatmeal is a good face mask that you can use.
  • Wash the mask and tone your face with any natural toner. Apple Cider Vinegar(ACV) is a great option. Mix 1 tbsp of ACV with 1 cup of water. Now with a cotton ball gently dip and tap all over your face.
  • Finally moisturise your face with aloe, butters or soothing oils to prevent drying of skin.

This is an entire SPA treatment done in the cozies of your own home. Give it a try as it takes less time and the effort is commendable, your facial skin will thank you.
